Meet Gina, a stunning silver Weimaraner with soulful amber eyes and an even bigger heart. If you’re looking for a dog that wants to be your shadow, your cuddle buddy, your walking partner, and your biggest fan, Gina may just be your perfect match.

Gina came to Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue after her owner’s declining health made it impossible to continue caring for her. Since arriving in foster care, she has blossomed into an affectionate, loyal girl who simply wants to be wherever her person is. Whether you’re taking a walk, relaxing on the couch, running errands, or just enjoying a quiet evening at home, Gina is happiest right by your side.

She has been working hard on gaining weight after arriving in rescue underweight and is doing wonderfully. She currently weighs 45 pounds and is eating Purina Pro Plan Lamb & Rice with a calorie enhancer, probiotic, fish oil, and extra meals to help her reach her ideal body condition. Once she reaches her goal weight, her feeding schedule can be reduced to a normal maintenance amount. She has no known allergies or food sensitivities and is not on any prescription medications.

Gina is fully housebroken and will bark to let you know she needs to go outside. She is crate trained and settles nicely in her kennel after a brief protest. At bedtime she sleeps quietly in her crate and rides exceptionally well in the car, making her an easy companion for trips and adventures.

This beautiful girl is incredibly people-oriented. She absolutely loves attention from everyone she meets, especially if treats are involved. She’s very treat motivated, already knows “sit,” has a reliable recall, and is eager to learn. She’s currently working on leash manners and improving her “leave it” command, which has already made a huge difference with her tendency to bark or chase distractions. She is a smart dog who enjoys training and thrives when given both physical exercise and mental enrichment. Gina would do best with at least two walks each day along with sniff work, training sessions, or other activities that allow her to use her brain.

Because of the neglect she experienced before coming into rescue, Gina developed resource guarding around food, resting spaces, and people when other dogs are present. She has never shown aggression toward humans and is incredibly affectionate with people, but she can become defensive around other dogs in the home when valuable resources are involved. Outside, she enjoys playing with other dogs, but inside the home she is much more comfortable having her own space. For this reason, Gina is looking for an only-dog home or a home with an adopter who has extensive experience managing canine resource guarding. She should also live in a home without cats or other small animals due to her strong prey drive.

Gina is an athletic Weimaraner with a natural instinct to chase anything that moves, including squirrels, rabbits, birds, cats, livestock, and even passing cars. She has made excellent progress with training, but she’ll need a securely fenced yard and an adopter who is committed to continuing her leash work and reinforcing her training.

What Gina wants more than anything is simple: a family to love. She wants someone who will include her in their life, take her on adventures, let her curl up beside them on the couch at the end of the day, and make her feel like she belongs. After everything she’s been through, she deserves nothing less.

If you’re looking for a devoted best friend who will love you with her whole heart, Gina is waiting to meet you.
