Adoption
One of the most rewarding things you can do. Rescue a dog and gain a friend for life.

Our rescue program works hard to match the right dog to the right owner, and we have been very successful for that reason. All of our dogs are vet checked, up to date on all shots and spayed or neutered. Because of the wide range of circumstances of surrendering homes not all dogs are housebroken and/or crate-trained. When appropriate, they are first placed into a foster home for at least four weeks in order to be evaluated for temperament, behavior, and physical health. We do require a fee for all placed dogs in approved homes.
Adult (ages 1-6) $425
Seniors (ages 7+) $150
Puppies (under 1yr) $600 with $100 rebate for spay/neuter proof

**Adjustments to all of these fees may be made for "special needs" dogs, to be determined on a case by case basis.**

The average age range of the dogs that come into rescue is usually one to three years. Since Weims are rather slow to mature (behavior-wise, not size!) that age would make them adolescents...still a handful, but on the verge of being ready to calm down, in the right situation. Please do not discount older dogs...it is a misconception that older dogs will not bond to new owners as well as a puppy. Weims are so people oriented, believe me, they will bond. In fact, some people are not ready for how seriously and closely they do bond! They have been bred to be companion animals.

Below is a link to our adoption application. Please complete the application as thoroughly as possible so that we have enough information to match you with the dog most suited to your particular living situation. Our goal is for every placement to be the best and last for each dog and its new family. You will be contacted upon receipt and review of your application.
Applications & the Waitlist
You may submit an adoption application at any time, even if we do not currently have dogs available. Being on our waitlist allows us to have your information, understand what you’re looking for, and match incoming dogs to the homes that best suit their needs.
And to be very clear: we are not in the business of making humans happy—we are in the business of doing what is best for the dogs.
Some dogs cannot live with:
• Men
• Children
• Cats
• Other dogs
• Male dogs
• Female dogs
Every dog is different, and it takes time in foster care to learn those details. That four-week evaluation period exists so dogs aren’t bounced from home to home simply because they were placed in the first home that wanted them.
How the adoption process works:
A dog enters rescue and begins a foster evaluation (minimum of 4 weeks)
Once we know the dog well, we review our waitlist first
If no waitlisted adopter is a good match—or they choose to pass—the dog is then posted for open adoption
Applications are reviewed with the dog’s needs as the top priority
You only need to fill out one application. We do not require a new application for every dog.
Putting a dog’s name on your application lets us know which dog you’re interested in, but it does not guarantee placement. If that dog isn’t the right fit, your application stays active so we can continue looking for a dog that may be a better match for both you and the dog.
We don’t do this to upset people.
We don’t judge.
We don’t play favorites.
We don’t prioritize “special” people.
Every policy we have has been discussed extensively by our board and exists for one reason only:
happy dogs, stable homes, and lifelong placements.
Please be patient! This often takes up to a week or more, as we are all volunteers with jobs, families, and dogs of our own.
