Gus, 2yo mix

Meet Gus, a 2-year-old Weimaraner mix (DOB: 08/18/2023) weighing about 55 lbs, who is looking for a new home where he can continue to grow and thrive. Gus is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Gus is a silly, goofy, and affectionate boy who loves to be active just as much as he loves to cuddle. He enjoys running, exploring, playing with tennis balls and sticks, and even snacking on grass like it’s a delicacy. He has a moderate to high energy level and would do best in a home that can keep him both mentally and physically engaged.

He is crate trained and housebroken, and he knows some basic commands like sit, paw (“shakies”), and wait. Gus rides in the car fairly well, though he may whine a bit at first before settling.

Gus is incredibly loyal and loving, but he can be reactive when meeting new people or dogs. This means he may bark, lunge, or seem overly alert when he’s overwhelmed. However, he has no bite history, and with proper introductions, consistency, and continued training, he is able to acclimate and do well.

He does well with kids but may play too rough for children under 10 due to his size and enthusiasm. He can also live with other dogs with proper introductions and structure. Gus does have slight separation anxiety but generally handles being left alone fairly well.

On leash, Gus will need some continued work, as he can pull and may try to grab the leash with his mouth. He will benefit from an owner who is committed to continuing his training and helping him build confidence.

Ideal Home:

Gus would thrive in a home that offers:

-A yard or land where he can run and explore

-A quieter, less chaotic environment

-An owner with time, patience, and consistency

-Someone familiar with active breeds and willing to continue training

Health:

Gus has a history of elbow dysplasia but has not had any issues in about a year and is currently active and doing well.

Reason for Rehoming:

Due to moving and working two jobs, his owner is no longer able to give him the time and attention he needs.
